Risedale’s Year 7 Boys Triumph in 11-Goal Thriller! ⚽

04/03/2026 Sports News

6-5 to Risedale! Our Year 7 boys show incredible RESILIENCE to win an extra-time heartstopper and march on to the semi-finals.

On Wednesday, 4th March, #TeamRisedale travelled to Bedale for the Area Plate quarter final. The game was a rollercoaster of emotions for the boys, and it was great to see the character of both teams demonstrating great togetherness and RESILIENCE throughout.

Bedale started the game well and went 1-0 up, but the Risedale pupils didn’t seem fazed, supporting one another brilliantly and showing excellent RESPONSIBILITY for their roles. Their hard work was rewarded with two great finishes from Theo Turner (7Hill) and Max Gilroy (7Reid), allowing Risedale to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

After the break, Bedale fought back, levelling the score at 2-2. #TeamRisedale rallied again, with Captain Tommy Hall (7Hill) and Max Gilroy, leading the team motivation. However, no one could have anticipated what happened next: straight from the kick off, the ball was passed to Cameron McGregor (7Shephard) who unleashed a strike from inside his own half. With a fortunate bounce, looping over the keeper, Risedale were instantly 3-2 up!

Risedale continued to push with clever wing play from Sean Reid (7Shergold) and goals from Jayden Duffy and Joshua Flude (both 7Reid), building a 5-2 lead with 10 minutes to play. But the game wasn’t over; Bedale’s striker scored an exceptionally quick hat-trick to level the game at 5-5, sending the tie into extra time (and potentially penalties).

After a cagey first half of extra time, the breakthrough finally came. Cameron McGregor struck again with the match-winner, firing home from just outside the box after the ball dropped to him from a corner!

It was an exhilarating, nail-biting match. #TeamRisedale showed incredible RESILIENCE and attitude. The photos show the team, their togetherness and them waiting to shake Bedale players' hands after the final whistle.

Next up, Stokesley in the semi-finals. Come on #TeamRisedale !!!!
