Transition

Transition from Year 6 to Year 7

Jane Hailwood (2)Hello, my name is Mrs Jane Hailwood, and I am the Transition Manager and a Senior Teacher at Risedale School.

I oversee the transition process for our new pupils, and I am very much looking forward to welcoming your child to the Risedale Family. We understand that the transition to secondary school can be an exciting yet nerve-wracking time for both pupils and their families, and I want to reassure you that Risedale School is committed to supporting them every step of the way.

If you were unable to attend our Year 6 Welcome Evening on 9th June, please do not worry. Here's what we shared with parents/carers and pupils on the night:

URGENT: Pupil Admission Form

If you haven’t already done so, please complete the Risedale Pupil Admission form as soon as possible. This form helps us prepare for the upcoming school year and ensures a smooth transition for your child.

If you have any queries, please feel free to contact our Transition Team at enquiries@risedale.org.uk or our SEND Team at send@risedale.org.uk.

Transition Time: (Wednesday 9th July and Thursday 10th July)

Before joining as a Year 7 pupil in September, your child will take part in ‘Transition Time’ here at Risedale for 2 days, on Wednesday 9th July and Thursday 10th July.

What Pupils Can Expect During Their Transition Time

During these two days, your child will:

  • Be greeted each morning at the main school entrance by their new form tutors or members of the Risedale Transition Team.
  • Have dedicated time with their new form tutor.
  • Experience various lessons and discover new and exciting subject areas.
  • Have opportunities to meet key members of staff and talk to current Risedale pupils from all year groups.

Times and Travel:

Your child should arrive at Risedale each morning at 8.20 am for an 8.30 am start. Our school day finishes at 3 pm.

Parents and carers are welcome to drop off and pick up their child each day. However, we kindly request that you do not use the school car park for parking during this time, as spaces are reserved for staff. We suggest parking at Shute Road, and your child can safely walk through the snicket to Risedale.

Pupils who live in Catterick Village can use the 562R school bus service provided by Hodgsons Coaches Ltd (Tel: 01833 630730). The timetable can be viewed HERE.

Break/Lunch and Food:

All pupils are required to bring either a packed lunch or money to purchase a school lunch in the canteen. You can view the complete price list here: Canteen Price List. Please note that for these two days, all canteen transactions must be made in cash (the correct change would be welcomed!). Starting in September, when your child begins with us, you will have the option to pay for lunches online through ParentPay.

Clothing and Equipment:

For the 2 days of Transition Time, we ask that your child wears their Primary School uniform or leavers’ hoodie. They will need to bring a school bag and a pencil case with adequate equipment for their lessons each day.

Please ensure your child's school bag contains the following:

  • A packed lunch or money for school dinners
  • Pencil case
    • Black, blue and red pens
    • Pencil and eraser
    • Ruler

Free School Meals

For information and to apply for a free school meal please visit North Yorkshire Council's Free School Meals website page.

Uniform

For information and guidance on purchasing Risedale School uniform, please visit our dedicated Uniform website page.

IMPORTANT: To guarantee delivery for September 2025, please order all school uniform online at SchoolShop before Tuesday, 29th July.

The Risedale School uniform and PE kit are a requirement for every pupil. We do not have a specific uniform for different seasons/times of the year. We have kept our uniform costs to an absolute minimum by reducing the need for clothing items with branded logos on them. Most items are unbranded and can therefore be bought from general retail outlets (eg. supermarkets and high street shops). Branded items are listed below and are specifically marked as 'Schoolshop only as branded'. These items can only be purchased from www.school-shop.co.uk.
