Risedale School proudly participated in Restart a Heart Day on Thursday, 16th October, with its newest cohort of Year 7 pupils undertaking vital CPR training. This engaging and empowering annual event, delivered in partnership with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, equipped young people with the essential skills to save a life.

Every year, Risedale School commits to ensuring its Year 7 pupils receive comprehensive CPR instruction, fostering a community of confident and capable potential lifesavers. This year was no exception, as pupils enthusiastically engaged in hands-on sessions led by dedicated off-duty staff and volunteers from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

The importance of early CPR cannot be overstated. A cardiac arrest patient’s chance of survival dramatically increases if CPR can begin before the ambulance service arrives on scene. Initiatives like Restart a Heart Day are crucial in spreading this life-saving knowledge far and wide. This year alone, Yorkshire Ambulance off-duty staff and volunteers taught CPR to more than 40,000 pupils at secondary schools across Yorkshire, marking 12 years of this incredible campaign.

Ms Dunphy, Head of Social Studies, shared her thoughts on the day: "We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 pupils for embracing this vital training. Seeing their dedication and understanding of how to perform CPR gives them a critical skill that could one day make all the difference. It's empowering for them, and reassuring for our community, to know they have this knowledge."

The training provided Risedale's Year 7 pupils with practical experience in chest compressions and rescue breaths, teaching them how to recognise a cardiac arrest and respond effectively in an emergency. The day was not only educational but also instilled a sense of responsibility and confidence in our young learners.
