Risedale School proudly took part in Restart a Heart Day on Friday 16th October, as our entire Year 7 intake gathered in the Main Hall to master life-saving CPR skills.
This vital annual event gives our newest pupils the tools, practical training, and confidence needed to step up during a medical emergency. By embedding CPR into our Year 7 timetable every October, Risedale guarantees that every single pupil who joins our school community learns how to save a life.
The Main Hall was transformed into an active training floor, where sessions were led by our very own Teacher of Science, Mrs Dunphy, alongside Senior Science Technician, Mrs Newall. Pupils worked through hands-on scenarios, practising CPR technique on training manikins, learning how to perform effective chest compressions and rescue breaths, and mastering how to react calmly under pressure.
Immediate CPR is crucial; a cardiac arrest patient's chance of survival increases dramatically if bystander intervention begins before paramedics arrive on scene. Today's event marks 13 years of the Restart a Heart initiative across Yorkshire, helping build a generation of ready and capable first responders.
Reflecting on the success of the day, Mrs Dunphy said:
"Watching our Year 7 pupils take on this training with such focus and maturity makes us immensely proud. Giving our young people the practical skills and confidence to perform CPR equips them with a lifelong ability that could one day save a family member, friend, or stranger. It is incredibly empowering for them and a huge asset to the Risedale Family and our wider community."
The day was both educational and inspiring, reflecting Risedale’s core values of RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT, and RESILIENCE as our Year 7s stepped up to become certified lifesavers.
We invite our entire school community to support the campaign and get #CPRConfident. Take five minutes today to refresh your own CPR skills with these official resources:
