Peer Reading with Hipswell Primary: Week 2

28/01/2026 Top News

Our second Peer Reading session with Hipswell Church of England Primary School was a resounding success this week! The Risedale library was absolutely buzzing with energy as our incredible KS3 Reading Ambassadors officially began their roles as mentors to their Year 5 peers.

While the first session focused on introductions and getting creative with our favourite book characters, this week saw our pupils dive straight into the heart of the programme. It was truly inspiring to see our mentors bringing stories to life with passion, expression, and genuine care.

At Risedale, we are incredibly proud of how our volunteers embody our school values so naturally. Throughout the session, we saw these values in action:

  • RESPONSIBILITY: Our Reading Ambassadors took full ownership of their mentorship roles, guiding their partners through their chosen texts.
  • RESPECT: A wonderful atmosphere of mutual kindness was evident as the older and younger pupils shared their thoughts and ideas.
  • RESILIENCE: Both year groups worked together to navigate tricky vocabulary and challenging themes.
  • RELATIONSHIPS: The bonds between Risedale and Hipswell are growing stronger every week, defining the supportive community spirit we strive for.

Session 2 of 6 is now a wrap! We are so impressed with the progress made already and are eagerly looking forward to seeing these reading journeys continue next week.
