Risedale School is proud to celebrate the outstanding musical achievement of Year 8 pupil Alex Dunphy, who has been awarded a Distinction in his Grade 4 RSL Graded Certificate in Music Performance (Drum Kit), scoring an impressive 94% overall.
Alex has been drumming for 10 years and is an active member of several local bands. His passion and dedication allow him to extend his musical enjoyment beyond school, leading to a wide range of performance experiences. "I really enjoy the chances that playing drums has given me," Alex shared. "I've had the privilege to play in loads of great venues. This April, I even performed with the Durham Miners' Association Brass Band at Durham Cathedral for King Charles."
Alex expressed his gratitude, stating, "I’d like to say a big thank you to Mr Williamson. His drum lessons are fantastic; he’s such an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher."
Alex receives his drum tuition weekly at Risedale School through the North Yorkshire Music Service. His teacher, Mr Williamson, praised his efforts:
"Alex has worked incredibly hard to achieve his Grade 4 Distinction, dedicating nearly a year to mastering different styles, genres, and techniques during his drum lessons in school. He's also developed numerous techniques by playing along with backing tracks and learning independently at home. For his exam, we submitted a video of Alex performing, which was then sent to Rockschool for marking. I am very proud of what Alex has achieved this year; he truly deserves this success. It's only when pupils strive for the top level of perfection that the highest marks are awarded, and that's exactly what Alex did! Congratulations!”
