27/03/2026 Sports News

A last-minute penalty and a dramatic shootout saw the Year 10s claim victory over the Year 11s in an action-packed KS4 football match on the final day of term.

On Friday, 27th March, the final day of term, Risedale witnessed the highly anticipated annual Year 10 vs. Year 11 clash. Played in fantastic spirits, the match served as a perfect celebration before the Easter break and a fitting send-off for our Year 11s as they prepare for the most important term of their school lives.

A First-Half Seesaw

The game was an emotional rollercoaster from the opening whistle. The Year 10s took an early lead through a clever Matthew Senivota finish, but the Year 11s struck back when Chris Allan fired a clinical strike into the roof of the net. The Year 10s regained the momentum just before the break, with Senivota’s right boot finding the mark once again to make it 2-1 at half-time.

Second-Half Drama

The Year 11s showed their class after the interval, seizing control of the game. Kalen Jenkin levelled the scoring from close range before Jacob Gardner put them ahead with a spectacular volley following a precision James Pollock corner. With only five minutes remaining, the Year 11s looked certain to take the win—until Theo-Tyler Fort earned a lifeline for the Year 10s by winning a penalty. Player-manager Leon Pond stepped up and calmly dispatched the spot-kick to force the game into a shootout.

The Penalty Shootout

The match went to the spot in a tense finale. The Year 10s took the initiative immediately: Lester Atherton scored his opener, while goalkeeper Zach White became the hero of the hour with two massive saves.

Corey Hillman and Theo-Tyler Fort kept the momentum swinging, and despite a successful strike from Rio Regan for the Year 11s, Leon Pond stepped up once more to seal the victory. His winning penalty sent the Year 10 crowd wild!

Well played to everyone involved for a game played with such great character and sportsmanship. Both teams were a credit to the school, demonstrating our core values: RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT, RESILIENCE, and positive RELATIONSHIPS.
