Month of the Military Child Launched with Inspiring Poetry Workshop 💜

14/04/2026 Top News

Risedale School is proud to announce the official launch of the Month of the Military Child! To kick off a month dedicated to celebrating our service pupils, we were delighted to welcome published poet Charlie Dixon and her canine companion, Pickles, from the "Never Such Innocence" project.

Creative Voices: Mobility, Change, and Hope โœ๏ธ

Charlie led an engaging and thought-provoking workshop specifically designed for our Year 7 and 8 pupils. Throughout the session, pupils were encouraged to delve into the unique experiences of being part of a military family, exploring complex themes such as:

  • Mobility & Change: Navigating the frequent moves and new beginnings common in service life.
  • Transition & Hope: Finding strength and optimism during times of upheaval.

The creativity and emotional maturity displayed by our pupils were truly remarkable. By translating their personal journeys into poetry, they captured the RESILIENCE that defines our service community.

A Special Guest ๐Ÿพ

The workshop was made even more memorable by Pickles, Charlie’s companion, who helped create a relaxed and supportive environment for the pupils to share their stories. Partnering with the Never Such Innocence project allows our pupils to see their work as part of a national conversation, giving a powerful voice to the children of Armed Forces personnel.

Looking Ahead ๐Ÿ’œ

At Risedale, we recognise the incredible strength shown by our service pupils every day. This workshop is just the beginning of our celebrations; stay tuned to our website and social media channels for more special events and tributes throughout the month of April.
