Northallerton and Catterick Federation
The federation brings together our three secondary schools under a single Governing Body and Executive Principal. Each school retains its distinctive character, but work closely together to maximise the benefits of cooperation for our 2000 students.
Partnership between the Allertonshire School and Northallerton College is long-standing. Virtually all of the Allertonshire’s students transfer to Northallerton College at age 14. The association between Northallerton College and Risedale Sports and Community College dates to 2008. The two colleges formally federated in 2009. The Allertonshire School joined this federation in 2013.
St Cuthbert’s Cross
Although our schools are not affiliated with any specific religious denomination, our school badge celebrates the connection of our two communities with the development of Christianity.
Northallerton became an important centre for religious affairs in the Eleventh Century, following the grant of land in the town to the Bishop of Durham by William II. It is this link with the Bishopric of Durham that is reflected in the choice of St Cuthbert’s Cross as our badge.
Hipswell has equally strong links with the development of Christianity. It was the birthplace of John Wycliffe in about 1325. His religious teachings paved the way for the Reformation. Wycliffe made the first English translation of the Bible.
The role of the Executive Principal
The Executive Principal is the leading professional in the federation.
Accountable to the governing body, the Executive Principal provides vision, leadership and direction for the federation and ensures that each school is managed and organised to meet its aims and targets.
The Executive Principal, working with others, is responsible for evaluating the school’s performance to identify the priorities for continuous improvement and raising standards; ensuring equality of opportunity for all; developing policies and practices; ensuring that resources are efficiently and effectively used to achieve the school’s aims and objectives and for overseeing the day-to-day management, organisation and administration of each school.
